Highest point in Steuben County There are a lot of beautiful views in Hartsville, including the highest point in Steuben County at the top of Call Hill. An elevation of 2,405’.
Slate Creek School & Museum Historical Society Hartsville’s school district #6 opened in 1845 on Slate Creek. It became part of the Canisteo Centralized school district in 1938. In 2013 the old school was donated to the Town of Hartsville by the Hilsdorf family. It was opened as a museum in 2019. On September 13, 2022, The University of New York State voted a provisional charter be granted as an education corporation under the corporate name of Hartsville Slate Creek School and Museum. In 2023, the town turned the museum over to the newly formed Historical Society.Come take a step inside this 19th century one room school house and see how children were educated for over 90 years. Wander through the old cloak room and into the woodshed to learn about Hartsville’s history.The board members of the Hartsville Historical Society have been highly motivated to achieve the vision of our founding educational leader Steve Cotton. We are currently looking for area schools tha may be interested in giving their 4th grader’s a field trip opportunity to tour the school. Individuals, families, groups and organizations are welcome.The school house is open by appointment only.
